DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh: Homestead 2021

Modeled after after our signature Annual Event, go behind the scenes and get reacquainted with Homestead by exploring a diverse collection of buildings.

Experience the vibe of this reemerging neighborhood first-hand. Trust us, you will be illuminated!

Nestled along the Monongahela River, just across the river from the Pittsburgh City limits. Homestead was an important part of the history of labor relations in the United States, gaining international notoriety with the Homestead Strike of 1892.

As the mills began to close post-WWII, when the need for steel declined, so did the population of Homestead by over half. The Homestead Works Mill finally closed in 1986. In 1999 the Waterfront Mall was built and provided a step towards reclaiming population.

Today, the community is forged by a diverse collection of old buildings that have been reimagined into new spaces and businesses.

We invite you to explore this reemerging neighborhood--in DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh style!
