ABOUT THIS BUILDING

This site in the 1800s housed a blacksmith shop until 1886 when the Church building was built as the First German Baptist Church of Birmingham. In 1916, the building was sold to SS. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church. In 1932, the congregation lost their building but regained it in November 1942. The parish was renamed St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church and has continued in its present location from that time. The Church is blessed to host numerous historical Icons from Russia as well as primary Icons written in the Carpathian Style.
