Please join DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh and the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for a behind-the-scenes tour of Pittsburgh’s Mounted Police.
Officers will show you their daily activities and let you meet their equine partners!
Tour highlights will include the history of the City of Pittsburgh and its use of horses specifically within the Bureau, how the Mounted Unit was revived, where the horses come from, their background, and how the city acquired them, as well as training of the horses, including their exclusive training for police work in an urban environment.
TOUR HOST BIO:
The City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Mounted Unit is responsible for carrying out the basic functions of the Bureau, participating in community outreach programs, assisting and serving as a support unit in special operations including search and rescue and civil disorder/crowd dispersal, and training incoming officers to the unit to be proficient in all equine skills.
