Immerse yourself in the Strip District–DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh style with this self-guided event, modelled after our signature Annual Event.
Go behind-the-scenes, get unique access, or simply explore a diverse collection of buildings that represent an architectural tapestry of old, new and re-purposed.
Due to its prime, riverfront location, the Strip District started out as the headquarters for several companies in the early 19th century including U.S. Steel, Westinghouse, and The H.J. Heinz Company. By the end of the 1920s, the Strip District become the economic center of Pittsburgh, as more restaurants and grocers continued to settle in the Strip District.
Today, while some of its original grocers remain, many have been replaced with artistic shops, antique stores, boutique merchants, restaurants and alcohol producers.
Be inspired by the Strip District’s transformation from a small manufacturing neighborhood to one now powered by technology giants and one-of-a-kind startups as DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh invites you to experience the Strip District as never before!
How To Participate
Building owners require facial masks for entry regardless of vaccination status. As per current CDC guidelines, we do not require masks for fully-vaccinated persons on our tours, but will rely on “the honor system” as to whether attendees are vaccinated.
