DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh Receives $10,000 Grant from Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council
PITTSBURGH, October 26, 2022 – DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh is honored to announce it has been awarded a $10,000 Allegheny Arts Revival Grant (AARG) from the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council. This one-time grant program, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), was developed to make American Rescue Plan funds more accessible to the arts sector. The AARG application was open to small arts and culture nonprofits in Allegheny County with an operating budget of $250,000 or less. DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh was 1 of 35 local organizations to receive this funding.
DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh, which presents immersive tours and events to increase the appreciation of regional art, architecture, and cultural history, will be using the AARG funds to support its 2022 end-of-season tours and events and the planning and implementation of its 2023 educational programming. Their annual tour schedule includes guided walking tours, insider tours, neighborhood events, and—new in 2022—boat tours aboard the Gateway Clipper. The 2023 tour season begins April 1.
Bonnie Baxter, Founder & Executive Director of DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh, said: “We are so appreciative of the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council for offering this grant opportunity specifically to Allegheny County’s smaller arts and cultural organizations. With limited budgets and staff, it can be very challenging for small organizations like ours to find unrestricted funding that allows us to continue the essential work we are doing year over year.”
The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, which is comprised of more than 600 diverse artists and nonprofit organizations, champions the arts of southwestern PA by providing financial, professional, and political support for the arts and culture sector. The Council has previously served as a community partner for DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh’s signature neighborhood event held Downtown each October.
