DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh Announces 2023 Tour Season Schedule
Pittsburgh, March 21, 2023 - Now in its 8th season, DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh, a local non-profit, has grown from presenting a single downtown event in 2016 to now comprehensively showcasing the architecture, arts, culture, and history of Pittsburgh with nearly 100 tours and events for the 2023 Tour Season, April through October.
“We have worked very hard to curate a variety of tours and events that showcase Pittsburgh’s architectural, artistic, cultural, and historical assets. We encourage the public to engage with us, embrace their curiosity and as we say at Doors Open Pittsburgh, be nebby!” says Founder, Bonnie Baxter.
DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh will be presenting three new architectural Boat Tours celebrating the history and untold tales of each of the three rivers, including The Mighty Monongahela, Histories and Mysteries of The Allegheny, and Secrets of The Ohio. Also, back by popular demand in 2023 is the Bridges and Buildings: Architecture of the Three Rivers Boat Tour, which debuted in 2022.
DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh will be offering a variety of Guided Walking Tours, featuring multiple neighborhoods and the notable historical and architectural aspects within. To name just a few, the 2023 schedule includes the fan favorite Roots of Pittsburgh, the new revolutionary era Four Forts at The Point tour, uncovering facts and fascinations of places like the Homewood Cemetery, and exploring the hearts of multiple niche communities including Carnegie, Lawrenceville, Oakmont, Sewickley, Edgewood, Hazelwood, Wilkinsburg, and more.
DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh has also expanded its Insider Tours offerings. During these tours, the public is invited inside typically private, off limit or unknown spaces for purposes of a true immersive experience. This year, attendees will experience behind-the-scenes access to multiple branches of city law enforcement including Pittsburgh Bomb Squad, River Rescue, and Mounted Unit; backstage tours of performance venues such as The Pittsburgh Playhouse and Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild; the diversity and splendor of many Pittsburgh synagogues and other religious centers; and the intimate creative process with renowned local artists in the very studios where they work.
DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh will also be presenting two large-scale Neighborhood Events, whereas the public is provided behind-the-scenes access, some unique experience, or just the opportunity to explore significant buildings, public art, and other unique assets of the neighborhood, including the merchants and other stakeholders. The purpose is to provide an innovative way for the public to get to know our neighborhoods intimately. This year, Millvale will be presented on Saturday, June 17 and Southside will be presented on Saturday, September 23.
The DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh official 2023 Tour Season is on sale now. Ticket prices are $15 - $40. For additional event information, and to purchase tickets: doorsopenpgh.org.
The 2023 tour season is supported in part by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council through its Allegheny Arts Revival Grant, the National Endowment for the Arts.
