History of DOP

In 1984, the DOORS OPEN/Open House movement got its start in Europe – like all the cool things do! To date, there are 40+ European cities that present this event, and eight or so other US cities who also present this event.

DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh (DOP) was founded in 2016 as a non-profit by Bonnie Baxter, a native Pittsburgher, who was inspired after attending Open House Chicago while living in Chicago.

DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh is “grass-roots” in the truest sense, with Bonnie serving as the full-time Executive Director, responsible for all day-to- day activities necessary to make this event happen. As for staff, there isn’t any, but DOP has been fortunate to have an event-day contingency of amazing volunteers, and friends along the way to help!

If you see the relevance of our mission, please help to sustain the organization and help keep ticket prices affordable, by making a comfortable financial contribution to DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh (501c3 non-profit)
