The Fancy Smells of Herr’s Island
Saturday, October 15 | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Whether you call it Herr’s Island or Washington’s Landing, this bit of Pittsburgh just up the Allegheny River has a storied history.
For nearly a century, Herr’s Island was Pittsburgh’s largest livestock hotel and industrial center focused on processing animals arriving by rail in the City. After the animal-related industries closed, Pittsburgh rebranded the island and undertook an ambitious redevelopment project creating one of the City’s best hidden amenities that we now know as Washington’s Landing.
Explore the island’s natural, industrial, and economic history with tour host, David Rotenstein.
