The City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Mounted Unit is responsible for carrying out the basic functions of the Bureau, participating in community outreach programs, assisting and serving as a support unit in special operations including search and rescue and civil disorder/crowd dispersal, and training incoming officers to the unit to be proficient in all equine skills.
