YOUR EXPERIENCE
Take in the Gothic architecture, an architectural style that was popular in Europe from the late 12th to 16th centuries. This beautiful architectural style was developed with influences from the Romanesque architecture that followed Renaissance architecture. Look for the fabulous biblical engravings on the stained-glass windows which are full of color, and climb the gorgeous, mountainous staircases. While visiting, you will hear about the rich history of this African Methodist Episcopal Church and its founder.
ABOUT THIS BUILDING
The Brown Chapel AME Church is a 3-story brick building that has been designated as a Pittsburgh Historical Landmark. It has a strong congregation, first formed in 1837-38 and still vibrant now. It is the oldest historical church left standing and operating on the Northside. The church was rebuilt in 1903 due to a tornado, which struck the southwest corner of the building. The Gothic architecture, with the original colorful stained-glass windows, is a beautiful sight to see!
