In 2016 the City hired the first-ever archivist to endeavor on preserving thousands of archived materials about the City of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining the City, Hartley worked as an archivist for the Heinz History Center. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and is a Certified Archivist and Certified Records Manager.
