In 1984, the Doors Open/Open House movement actually got it’s start in Europe
– like all the cool things do!
To date, there are 40+ European cities that present this event, and eight or so other US cities who also present this event.
Doors Open Pittsburgh (DOP) was founded in 2016 as a non-profit by Bonnie Baxter,
a native Pittsburgher, who was inspired after attending Open House Chicago
while living in Chicago.
Doors Open Pittsburgh is “grass-roots” in the truest sense, with Bonnie serving
as the full-time Executive Director, responsible for all day-to- day activities
necessary to make this event happen.
As for Staff, there isn’t any, but DOP has been fortunate to have good friends,
volunteers and interns help along the way.
DOP has also enjoyed the continued and unwavering support and friendship of
organizations like the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation,
AIA/Pittsburgh Chapter, Visit PITTSBURGH and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
DOP is not financially supported by any organization, as it is in other cities that
present the Doors Open/Open House event.
